Minor Setback or Major Opportunity

Every-excuse-is-a-choice-to-failSomewhere along the line this week I seem to have injured my left calf. It hurts to run, jump, stand on my toes….and it was pretty much unbearable for a few days. The kind of pain you just cannot “work through.” I tried. I about threw up – it really hurt 🙁

But today it is starting to feel slightly better, so I am optimistic. I must be, I have things to do, workouts to tackle, oh and my final show coming up!

3 weeks out is no time for such setbacks. So, I have not used this as a setback, but rather a major opportunity – I embraced the elliptical machine and numerous intervals and sprints on it (barely hurt!) and have gotten a suggestion from Julie to row, which not only is a good change from my normal cardio but also a phenomenal workout for my back. I am so thankful my gym has row machines. It can be quite fun!

So while I am frustrated and mad at myself for somehow injuring my calf, I am truly blessed that my diet is right on point, my weight workouts have not been impacted and that in the grand picture, this is really the first time since I started this journey I have been limited during workouts. Also, I don’t have a ton of cardio on my plan at this point, so that makes adjustments easier. Although mentally it is a struggle – wondering if I am losing ground, but I must not look at it that way. Things happen, life happens. We adapt, grow, and overcome!

Ready to row!  But really ready for the calf to heal and to jump around, sprint the track, and go all out…Listening to my body – but sometimes I feel like arguing with it!
