Suck it up Buttercup!

I can’t exactly recall where our family joke of “Suck it up Buttercup” came from. I know it’s a common phrase, but it started circulating around my family about a year ago. Anytime we didn’t want to do anything or something got tough, “suck it up buttercup” came up!

It makes me giggle inside. It’s such a funny phrase, but to me it just means – JUST DEAL WITH IT and DO IT!

So this morning, I woke up after a full nights rest, completely exhausted. My tummy hurt from my stupid antibiotics, my head was pounding, jaw aching, nose full of grossness, and throat on fire. I thought, geez, I took yesterday completely off from working out and rested (well except the amazing mock competition) and today I was planning on feeling better and hitting the gym hard. But, to my dismay, I was not feeling better. I stumbled into the kitchen and heated up a 1/2 cup of oats and mixed it with 2 scoops of UMP and made my coffee. An hour later, I still felt terrible. My ears have this awful ring to them and hearing out of my left one is just not working.

So, I said it, “Suck it up Buttercup.” It was clear I may not feel better all day and it is unclear when I am going to feel ok, so I put on my gym clothes and there I went.

You know what, sweat might be the cure. I am home after one of the best cardio workouts I have endured in a while. I knocked out my shoulder tabatas and then capped them off with 45 minutes of intervals on the stepmill. I actually feel better. I don’t feel great, but I feel a lot better then before I went. I am now pumped and more motivated then ever for the next few weeks. After a day off and feeling bad for several days, I was getting down on myself.

I’m pumped to prep some food, clean the house, stay busy, and get some Sunday funday activities complete.

Moral of the story – life doesn’t always give us ideal situations. Some are much more serious then others. We can only do so much, we can only push so hard, but at times, we are able to just suck it up buttercup and make the most of it. Life is too amazing to settle for anything less!
