Top 10 MUST have products in your gym bag!

Ok gals, you are working out and then you have things to do like work or errands and you need to get ready at the gym or at least get “cleaned” up but not sure what to throw in your gym bag? These 10 things will get you a GREAT start to looking fresh and polished when leaving the gym! Pre pack this kit in a small bag and just KEEP IT in your gym bag or trunk of car for any time fix ups!

10. Dry Shampoo – Don’t have time for a shower but your hair is a sweaty mess? Spray a little into the roots of your hair, lightly rub, flip hair and dry. This will give your hair volume and make it smelling fresh. Tre’sume, $4, Drugstores

9. Body Mist – Use a body mist that is fresh not overpowering.  Degree and Secret make nice ones that are in smaller bottles perfect for the gym bag. $4, Drugstores

8. Cleaning Wipes – When you sweat a lot, it is important to get the skin nice and clean after a workout, however it may take too much time to go through your regular skincare routine.  After sweating the skin may be sensitive so it is important to use something gentle and calming to the skin.  I like Neutrogena Night Calming cleansing towelettes, $7, Drugstores

7. Tone your skin too – After working out the #1 thing you can do to prevent breakouts is bring the PH balance back to your skin by using a gentle, alcohol free toner.  I Love Laura Mercier Flawless Skin Perfecting Water mist, $38 OR Evian makes a Mineral Mist that works great for $16.50 at Sephora. Either provides a quick spritz so its easy.

6. Tinted Moisturizer – In a hurry? Try a tinted moisturizer or a BB Cream for quick on the go coverage instead of a foundation or messy mineral powder.  Urban Decay Naked Skin Beauty Balm, $34 OR Garnier $8, Drugstores

5. Q Tips – You can use them for everything from cleaning out years, correcting eye makeup runs from working out, to quickly polishing jewelry after a gym time shower (with a dab of toothpaste and rinse). $4, Drugstores

4. Mini bottle of mouthwash – No need to lug around tooth brush and toothpaste, in the “value” isle of the the drug store you can find a $1.50 mini bottle of scope to throw in your bag for quick freshness.

3. Lip Balm – A little trick of mine is to use lip balm under the eyes instead of eye makeup remover to clean up runs (that’s where the q tips come in), to dab as a quick under eye moisturizer and obviously for the lips to keep moist. Burts Bees, $3

2. Palette – Instead of carting around 10 different makeup products, I LOVE the combo palettes that have blush, eyes, lips and tools for application all in one shot.  There are some REALLY great ones out there too, perfect for travel too.  Try:

– Laura Mericer Glamour Dual Decker Palette – $98 (6 eye shadows, 5 lips, 4 blushes and 3 brushes, $256 value)

– Smashbox Master Class Palette – $59 ( Too much here to even list, I could Prob do a WHOLE Bridal party and never need anything but this palette, $250 value)

-Dior Au Nude Natural Look Palette – $59 (Bronzer, Eyes, Blush and tools)

Too Faced Sweet Indulgence Palette – $52 ($381 dollar value)

Here’s the thing about Palettes, you don’t get them to use ALL the time.  You put them in your gym bag to refresh your makeup after you work out.  They are good values but they are small amounts of the products so if you like them a lot, try and get the full size and keep in your makeup bag at home.

#1 thing to have in your Gym Bag – Waterproof mascara! No one needs to worry about runs in the middle of the workout! If you DON’T use it normally, quickly put a coat on before you work out to keep your mascara from running in the workout and then you can use it after in your regular routine.

All of these things will fit nicely into a compact bag to easily use in your gym bag! Here a few other things to include for your beauty routine: Brush, Deodorant, Wash cloth, Baby/Body powder (for the extra sweaty areas), unscented lotion and a sample bottle of your favorite perfume.

Hope this helps!

Lyndsey

Physique Men…this is for you!

Ok…so us ladies tend to have fairy good direction as to what to do to prep for a competition.  Body Builders have a “process” that has been around forever and their prepping.  SO that kind of leaves Men’s Physique out.  Not many trainers talk about it. AND being the nature of the competition it takes a tad bit more prepping than most men are used to.  Here is a guide to things we suggest doing pre-competition prep to make sure when you step on the stage you are 100% ready.

4 WEEKS OUT….

– Make sure you are cleansing your skin…EVERYDAY! This is NOT something   most men are used to doing.  Use a simple cleanser that will cleanse all the toxins out of your pores post workout.  Cetaphil Daily Cleanser for Normal to Oily skin, $9 in drugstores.

– Have a facial.  For real….this will help with years of skin damage and to get an initial “deep cleanse” on the skin.  Most spa’s have a “Men’s Facial” which is geared to men’s skin.  Average $55-$65

– Moisturize.  Even if you have blemishes or oily skin it is important to keep the skin hydrated.  If you don’t, it could produce MORE oil.  Mary Kay Men’s Moisturizer, $22

2 WEEKS OUT…..

– Are you tanning? If you are going to a tanning bed to get a little color before the show, be sure to be putting Vitamin K on the face.  This protects the face from aging..even a LITTLE tanning can cause the skin to look dull on stage.  Reviva Labs Vit K Skin Cream, $16 at GNC

– Begin exfoliation.  Exfoliate the face and the body.  Use the exfoliation on the face after cleansing and before moisturizer.  Use it on the body in the shower.  St. Ives Apricot Scrub, $5 for the face and Liquid Sun Rays Scrub for the body, $17.

– If you have body acne, make sure it is addressed by this point.  Try Neutrogena Body Clear, $7 at drugstores.

– If you have sensitive skin…Shave for the first time.  You need to shave your chest, legs, back, neck and arms.  If you have never shaved it all, go ahead and clip with clippers as low as you can go so it doesn’t pull so much and then take shaving cream and a razor to the rest.  Go ahead and do this 2 weeks out if you have sensitive skin and follow up with a  baby oil lotion to help with the irritation.  DON’T use perfumed lotions.  Also, try a ladies razor.  A GOOD ONE, they tend to adjust to the curves of the body better.  Johnson and Johnson Creamy Baby Oil with Aloe and Vit E, $5 at drugstores.

1 WEEK OUT….

– Pedicure – You for sure want to have your toes done.  Be sure to get a clear coat on them to make it easier to wipe the tanning off.  If you are feeling up to it, get a manicure too! Typically runs $45-$55.

2 DAYS OUT….

– Get a haircut! You want to be sure to look nice an groomed for the show.

– Eyebrow wax – you can do waxing or threading to keep you groomed.  Be sure not to get the brows too thin.  You just want them nicely groomed.

– Trim other unwanted hair around the ears and nose.

PRE TANNING PREP…

– Before you come to tan be sure to shower one last time. Be sure to exfoliate, shave again (EVERYTHING) but DO NOT put moisturizer on.

– When you go in to tan tell your tanner of any places you have that might be dry or have issues with.

– BEST case scenario – if Liquid Sun Rayz is offering male grooming appointments, don’t miss out on booking! We will have you not get your face sprayed.  If you are not booking a male grooming appointment with us, have your face lightly sprayed.

COMPETITION DAY…

– Most likely the tanning company will have you shower in the morning.  You do not use soap.  You can wash your hair if you need to, but if you didn’t use product the day before you most likely will just need to rinse and pat dry.

– Don’t use any moisturizers.

– If you had your face lightly sprayed wipe it off with a damp rag and do not put moisturizer on.

– BOOK A MALE GROOMING APPOINTMENT! Let us take care of the rest for you!

We will:

– Clean up your brows of any strays, get rid of any unwanted hair, moisturize, color match your body to face perfectly, do any concealing in the face or on the body that is needed (excluding tattoos), apply sweat proofer that keeps you from sweating on stage, waterproof your face, tint the eyelashes if needed, 3 set the face and body and do any finishing touches that are needed for your look.  $80 for 30 min.

– If you do not have an appointment with us we recommend finding a foundation or tinted moisturizer and setting powder that work with your skin tone so you can even the skin for stage.

Hope that helps boys! Good Luck with getting “beautified”!
