I just so happened to get off work early today and tried out a new gym, which I think I will be joining. But that is not what this story is about. I spun this morning so my legs were screaming at me at the gym, so after my arm workout I found myself trying to loosen my legs up on the elliptical.
The elliptical had a tv attached to it, a luxury I am undecided on if I like it or not. Anyway, I decided to take advantage of this new feature and watched part of Dr. Oz. Well, he was discussing healthy Mexican options. I did not pay attention to the weird cheesy dish, because you couldn’t pay me to eat orange cheese, but then he was discussing salsa. Salsa is a great dip option – usually for chips – but not when you are eating clean. But this episode was about making Mexican more healthy – so he used celery and dipped it into salsa. He said no one ever got fat from celery and salsa.
True story.
I was just laughing watching this. I’m quirky and have very odd habits. During my last contest prep I was starving my final few weeks – it could be that horrific hour of intervals Julie recommended I do or my reduction to 1600 calories…but anyway I was constantly hungry and had to eat something. One evening I found myself pulling an entire bag of celery out of the refrigerator and proceeded to dip it into my favorite sugar free salsa from Trader Joe’s. It was so good, that I ended up eating the entire bag of celery. Well my step-mom Tammy got a good smile out of it – I remember her saying, did you really just eat an entire bag of celery. And the answer was yes. It was sooooo good. So give it a try – it’s crunchy and it makes you appreciate the salsa flavors more. I just got some new salsa at a farmers market and cannot wait to give it a try.
