Rising NPC Figure and Fitness Champion Hyla Conrad is proving to be unstoppable in 2012!
I am 29 years old with a degree in Exercise Science, married to my wonderful husband Jimmy, and have a high energy Border Collie named Max. I love to go hiking with Max and my husband. I also love to cook, garden, go camping and be outdoors.
Starting at a young age, I always participated in sports from gymnastics at a young age, to track and field, and cheerleading in Jr. High and High School. I always loved the training, dedication, and responsibilities that hold true to being an athlete. After deciding to work with Julie 2011, I joined the Fitbody Team and met a lot of really great fit women. I chose fitness because of my background in gymnastics. I really loved creating routines for the shows and had a lot of fun! I took a full year off and decided to switch to figure for 2012. It was a great choice for me. I felt more confidant on stage in figure and it immediately “clicked”.
What are your greatest fitness accomplishments so far?
2011 NPC Kentucky Derby – Fitness 1st place
2011 Julie Palmer- Fitness 2nd place
2012 NPC Kentucky State- Figure 1st place Class B/ 1st Place Overall
2012 NPC Ohio State- Figure 1st place Short Class/ 1st Place
What things have most helped you make that transformation?
Every couple of weeks I re evaluate my goals, and why I am training. Although in this sport body composition is important, what is even more important is that I stay on top of my goals. Sure everyone wants to look good, but once you reach that point of looking fit, you have to go further and push harder and set goals or the mind/body connection is lost. I ask myself- Why am I training? What am I training for? How can I make this work in my life? I take the small mistakes I made in the past and make the changes that are needed. It takes a long time to figure out what works for your body, so when I reflect on the past it makes me more successful in the future. Of course, having Julie as a trainer makes the “figuring out” what works move much faster!
What do you enjoy most about fitness?
The hard work it takes to get where you need to be mentally and physically. I love hard work-it pays off!
What are your fitness goals?
To create a life that inspires others to become the best person they can be so they may fulfill their purpose in life. And of course, to become an IFBB Pro!
What motivates you to maintain a healthy lifestyle?
Knowing there are people all over the world who don’t have the opportunities that I do. I have resources that some people around the world do not have; I can wake up everyday and eat healthy foods that nourish my body. As far as workouts, I have no physical disabilities, what a blessing! There are athletes who have physical disabilities who have to work harder at the sport they love. If they can do that, I can too!
What is the best part about working with Julie?
Where do I start to explain the benefits? There are so many! First of all, she is one of the nicest people I have ever met. She introduces you to Beverly International products, which are the best supplements on the market. The absolute BEST part about working with Julie is her knowledge and how she combines being an athlete and being a REAL PERSON! Sure the foods I eat are healthy, but she makes the training and foods work synergistically. It’s amazing how her training and nutrition plans turn your body into this well-oiled fitness machine! If you put in the work, she will deliver results.
What is the worst part about working with Julie?
I don’t get to see her as much as I would like!

Patience is the key to success, and I have ALWAYS struggled with being patient. Training for figure competitions has really helped me understand that to be successful I must be patient with my body and understand there will always be something to improve.
