Physique Men…this is for you!

Ok…so us ladies tend to have fairy good direction as to what to do to prep for a competition.  Body Builders have a “process” that has been around forever and their prepping.  SO that kind of leaves Men’s Physique out.  Not many trainers talk about it. AND being the nature of the competition it takes a tad bit more prepping than most men are used to.  Here is a guide to things we suggest doing pre-competition prep to make sure when you step on the stage you are 100% ready.

4 WEEKS OUT….

– Make sure you are cleansing your skin…EVERYDAY! This is NOT something   most men are used to doing.  Use a simple cleanser that will cleanse all the toxins out of your pores post workout.  Cetaphil Daily Cleanser for Normal to Oily skin, $9 in drugstores.

– Have a facial.  For real….this will help with years of skin damage and to get an initial “deep cleanse” on the skin.  Most spa’s have a “Men’s Facial” which is geared to men’s skin.  Average $55-$65

– Moisturize.  Even if you have blemishes or oily skin it is important to keep the skin hydrated.  If you don’t, it could produce MORE oil.  Mary Kay Men’s Moisturizer, $22

2 WEEKS OUT…..

– Are you tanning? If you are going to a tanning bed to get a little color before the show, be sure to be putting Vitamin K on the face.  This protects the face from aging..even a LITTLE tanning can cause the skin to look dull on stage.  Reviva Labs Vit K Skin Cream, $16 at GNC

– Begin exfoliation.  Exfoliate the face and the body.  Use the exfoliation on the face after cleansing and before moisturizer.  Use it on the body in the shower.  St. Ives Apricot Scrub, $5 for the face and Liquid Sun Rays Scrub for the body, $17.

– If you have body acne, make sure it is addressed by this point.  Try Neutrogena Body Clear, $7 at drugstores.

– If you have sensitive skin…Shave for the first time.  You need to shave your chest, legs, back, neck and arms.  If you have never shaved it all, go ahead and clip with clippers as low as you can go so it doesn’t pull so much and then take shaving cream and a razor to the rest.  Go ahead and do this 2 weeks out if you have sensitive skin and follow up with a  baby oil lotion to help with the irritation.  DON’T use perfumed lotions.  Also, try a ladies razor.  A GOOD ONE, they tend to adjust to the curves of the body better.  Johnson and Johnson Creamy Baby Oil with Aloe and Vit E, $5 at drugstores.

1 WEEK OUT….

– Pedicure – You for sure want to have your toes done.  Be sure to get a clear coat on them to make it easier to wipe the tanning off.  If you are feeling up to it, get a manicure too! Typically runs $45-$55.

2 DAYS OUT….

– Get a haircut! You want to be sure to look nice an groomed for the show.

– Eyebrow wax – you can do waxing or threading to keep you groomed.  Be sure not to get the brows too thin.  You just want them nicely groomed.

– Trim other unwanted hair around the ears and nose.

PRE TANNING PREP…

– Before you come to tan be sure to shower one last time. Be sure to exfoliate, shave again (EVERYTHING) but DO NOT put moisturizer on.

– When you go in to tan tell your tanner of any places you have that might be dry or have issues with.

– BEST case scenario – if Liquid Sun Rayz is offering male grooming appointments, don’t miss out on booking! We will have you not get your face sprayed.  If you are not booking a male grooming appointment with us, have your face lightly sprayed.

COMPETITION DAY…

– Most likely the tanning company will have you shower in the morning.  You do not use soap.  You can wash your hair if you need to, but if you didn’t use product the day before you most likely will just need to rinse and pat dry.

– Don’t use any moisturizers.

– If you had your face lightly sprayed wipe it off with a damp rag and do not put moisturizer on.

– BOOK A MALE GROOMING APPOINTMENT! Let us take care of the rest for you!

We will:

– Clean up your brows of any strays, get rid of any unwanted hair, moisturize, color match your body to face perfectly, do any concealing in the face or on the body that is needed (excluding tattoos), apply sweat proofer that keeps you from sweating on stage, waterproof your face, tint the eyelashes if needed, 3 set the face and body and do any finishing touches that are needed for your look.  $80 for 30 min.

– If you do not have an appointment with us we recommend finding a foundation or tinted moisturizer and setting powder that work with your skin tone so you can even the skin for stage.

Hope that helps boys! Good Luck with getting “beautified”!

XO

Lyndsey
