Fun – Family – Fitness – My workout program for kids!
With the growing epidemic of childhood obesity, it is up to parents to be sure that their children are eating healthy and engaging in fun, fitness activities. A love for fitness and healthy habits developed as a child will translate into fitter and healthier adults! One way that our country is encouraging children to be active is through the Presidential Physical Fitness Challenge. This is a national standardized fitness protocol that tests children’s endurance, upper body & core strength, agility and flexibility. Children undergo testing in 5 different ares:
- Curl Ups
- Shuttle Run
- Endurance Run/Walk (1 mile)
- Pull ups or right angle pushups
- V Sit Reach
In an effort to help the children at my son’s school get better in the strength and flexibilty areas, I developed the Workout of the Week! The idea of this kids fitness program is that if we can practice the things they will be challenged with during the Presidential Physical Fitness Test, the children will know what to expect and will do better on the test! Strength and flexibility are not things that just happen – they have to be worked for.
This is 6 week kids fitness program focuses on core strength, upper strength and hamstring flexibility. Be sure to also include fun endurance activities to round out your child’s fitness program. Get the whole family involved and be the example your kids need to have fun while getting fit! Check back each week to see what is new and the latest W.O.W.!!! Here is the first week. This children’s fitness program is designed to be done 3 times per week and should only take 15-20 mins to do. Most importantly, have fun with it!
